equips students with the fundamental skills they need to become confident readers. The course is organized into engaging modules that cover phonemic
awareness, sound symbol relationships, alphabet recognition, short vowel mastery, and include a sight word bundle. With interactive lessons, hands-on activities, and guided practice, Groundwork sets the stage for a lifetime love of reading. Ideal for children who are at the beginning stages of literacy, this course lays the foundation for advanced reading skills. Prerequisites: None. Tailored for elementary-age students who have grasped the basics from Groundwork, this program dives deeper into the complexities of the English language using a systematic and explicit approach. Through a series of meticulously designed modules, your child will explore digraphs, long vowels, vowel patterns, the unique role of the letter “Y,” r-controlled vowels, prefixes/suffixes and more. Each lesson aims to improve listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, employing a variety of activities to ensure comprehensive understanding and long-lasting retention. As a bonus, the course includes a module on advanced sight words to enhance reading fluency and comprehension. Prerequisites include our Groundwork course or an equivalent level of understanding in foundational reading skills. Take the ultimate step in our literacy journey with “Skyward Mastery.” Guided by the proven principles of the Science of Reading, this course systematically explores the intricate facets of the English language. Students will master advanced phonetic patterns such as vowel teams, diphthongs, and silent letters, and delve into the world of prefixes, suffixes, and other affixes. Every lesson is crafted to embed writing, listening, speaking, and reading. With Skyward Mastery, your child is set to achieve true linguistic excellence, firmly grounded in evidence-based teaching methods. Prerequisites include our Taking Flight course or an equivalent level of understanding in order to be successful in the course.

Melissa uses various strategies to teach phonics and reading skills. She is very creative and captures students’ attention in reading.
Melissa begins her lessons by reviewing items the students already are familiar with, then follows by introducing the vocabulary and language from the book. She models using a graphic organizer. She goes over sight vocabulary. Students read and practice the focus strategy, then discuss what the book was about or what it includes.Last, students draw a picture or write a sentence about the story. She provides feedback and reviews goals before dismissing students.
